10+ YEARS OF LONGITUDINAL DATA

BTI identifies driving market trends and core strategic issues through our ongoing, comprehensive analysis of more than 3,100 interviews conducted over the span of eleven years. BTI's study includes between 50% and 55% of companies participating in prior years. This approach provides for accurate analysis of longitudinal trends while simultaneously allowing for insights into new, changing and up-and-coming opportunities.

BTI calculates law firm market share gains and losses based on data gained through numerous sources including the law firms themselves.

MEASURING CHANGE: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PRE- AND POST-2008

BTI compared research from 2002 - 2008 to 2009 – 2012 to pinpoint critical market shifts brought about by the economic downturn of late 2008. Beginning in 2009, BTI added a series of questions targeting the changes in corporate counsel behavior and the impact on law firms. BTI specifically tracks changes in spending, unmet needs, priorities, goals and key issues facing corporate counsel – now and in the future.
