Associates Can Earn Partner Rates In 2 Practice Areas

Law360 (Link to Full Article) Associates working in two major practice areas at the country's biggest law firms are commanding billing rates that match or even surpass the average rates charged by partners at smaller rivals, a new survey of corporate counsel says.

According to the new Billing Rate Reference 2014 report by BTI Consulting Group Inc. and Law360, while partners at firms with 150 to 399 attorneys are averaging $445 per hour, M&A associates at the big firms — with more than 400 attorneys — are billing a whopping $492 an hour. Young intellectual property litigators are close behind, at $443 per hour for associates.
